Your initial visit with Dr. Nishizaka, is in many ways the most important one. Your medical history will first be carefully reviewed, followed by a comprehensive examination of the head, neck, jaws, teeth, gums and anatomical structures inside of the mouth. Dr. Nishizaka will also evaluate your teeth for possible cosmetic and orthodontic needs. At this visit, he will prescribe necessary x-rays which will then be taken. Either later on in the first visit, or at a subsequent appointment, the doctor will sit down with you, and review all of his findings. At this time, you and Dr. Nishizaka will discuss all of your treatment options, and together you will decide on a course of action.

One of Dr. Nishizaka’s goals is to create a practice where you can have the majority of your needs addressed at one office. In order to do this he has exceeded the California state dental board requirement for continuing education by more than twofold. Most cosmetics, orthodontics (braces), endodontics (root canals), oral surgeries (tooth extractions), periodontal work (non-surgical and surgical), as well as standard general dentistry will be performed by the doctor. In the rare case that is beyond the scope of his practice, he will refer you to a top specialist colleague in the area for treatment.

Another emphasis of the practice is to increase you dental awareness through patient education. Several modern tools and some old-fashioned ones are used for this. An intraoral camera is used to demonstrate areas of concern inside your mouth on a TV screen. There are also videos available on DVD which will thoroughly explain a multitude of topics. But most important of all, Dr. Nishizaka will take the time to answer any questions in plain english (not in highly technical terms) so you can quickly and easily understand what is happening with your mouth.

Dr. Nishizaka offers the latest techniques in restoratives, including: dentures with special attachments that give greater security and comfort; partials with invisible clasps to make them less noticeable; implant supported prostheses, and much more.

On the cosmetic front, two types of bleaching (teeth-whitening) are available. Traditional take-home style, which works in about 7-14 days utilizing "Day-White" a material utilizing two 30-45 minute home treatments per day. This is more convenient than most alternative methods which require 4-6 hour sessions. For those who just cannot wait to enjoy their newly whitened teeth, in-office bleaching is the way to go. In-office bleaching utilizes Apollo’s Secret, a light activated material with which you can have all of your teeth whitened in less than an hour. For some people, bleaching alone won’t do the trick. In these cases, porcelain or composite veneers may be needed. The doctor will advise you as to which are best for you.

Orthodontia (tooth straightening) is also done by Dr. Nishizaka. Kids of all ages, teens and adults can enjoy the benefits of modern orthodontics. Orthodontics is utilized to correct existing malocclusions (bad-bites). Interceptive orthodontics is sometimes used to treat problems early on, setting the stage for the most stable bite correction possible. Orthodontics is sometimes required in conjunction with general restorative dentistry to give the best functional and cosmetic results. When you come in, ask to see before and after models of patients he has treated. You’ll be amazed at what can be done. Clear or white tooth brackets are also available for those who worry about the "metal-mouth" look.
